The Detectives Only challenge objective is this: “Put your detective skills to the test, this ghost is giving nothing away!”

To complete the challenge, you need to guess the correct ghost type in three separate matches. You cannot check fingerprints, use the EMF machine, or use the Spirit Box to find out what ghost haunts 42 Edgefield. But worry not, below are some clues to identify ghosts lurking around.

  • Mimics: Sends out orbs, which can be captured using cameras
  • Wraith: Use salt in the room to check for footprints. The Wraith floats and leaves no prints
  • Onryo: Light up three candles and use the crucifix. If the candles go off, it is an Onryo
  • Banshee: The mic can help you catch its screams
  • Phantom: It disappears as soon as you try the camera
  • Shade: look out for written interactions and will disappear when you move in a group
  • Goryo: cannot change their favorite rooms
  • The Twins: interact with two different objects at the same time
  • Thaye: You can ask Thaye’s age using the Ouija Board. If you ask again and the age goes up, you can confirm the ghost type
  • Raiju: Check for flickering equipment
  • Poltergeist: throws objects
  • Jinn: Turn on the fuse box and keep an eye on it. If it stays on, it is a Jinn
  • Spirits: Smudge the ghost and count down the time it takes to resume a hunt. If it’s more than 180s, it is a spirit.
  • Mare: Turns off any light you turn on. Can also bust lights
  • Revenant: its speed reaches 3.0m/s till it reaches your location, then slows to 1 m/s
  • Demon: Smudge the ghost to prevent a hunt. If the hunt is resumed after 60s, you can confirm it as Demon
  • Yurei: Can close or shut doors regardless of a hunt
  • Oni: Shows increased activities when a group is around. You can easily spot it during a hunt
  • Yokai: Shows increased activity when talked to
  • Hantu: Can shut down breakers and has a fogged breath
  • Myling: Use the mic to detect unusual sounds
  • Moroi: Smudge the ghost to blind it during a hunt. If it is blind for longer than 10s, it is a Moroi
  • Deogen: During a hunt, check its speed. It will raise to 3.0 m/s when far away, then drops to 0.4 m/s when close to you
