When Ubisoft presented the cinematic trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora during E3 2021, it showed that it will be exclusively launched for Xbox Series X|S and the PS5, as well as PC.
Based on James Cameron’s Avatar, the game is to launch in 2022, but the estimated time frame isn’t revealed. Nevertheless, it is confirmed that whoever has the older gen consoles like the Xbox One and PS4 will not be able to buy and play the game. The reason the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is preferred due to its high performance and rendering capabilities. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will provide features that will be supported in next gen consoles, such as ray tracing and advanced lighting. The game will have improved graphics and motion, and Ubisoft plans to replicate the movie sequences and integrate it into the game.

The game will also need the best hardware performance, since the world of Avatar is vast and will also include high speed elements like flying. All these will require quicker area loading and better performance, which only next gen consoles can achieve. With Ubisoft’s in-house engine, Snowdrop, they wish to integrate AI and NPCs with higher intelligence and motives. They have stated that they want to provide a totally immersive experience similar to the movie.
