Nvidia graphics cards pack numerous features that give them a competitive edge over GPUs from competitors. One such feature is DSR or Dynamic Super Resolution. This technology allows gamers to enjoy the content at four times the native resolution of their displays. This makes the video look sharp and crisp and effectively squeezes the maximum out of a panel.
DSR, however, is not supported on every Nvidia GPU ever. The feature was introduced with the company’s Maxwell-based GTX 700 series. GPUs older than this generation does not support it.
Also, some entry-level graphics cards like the GT 1030 do not have support for DSR. Laptop GPUs of all generations also lack support.
However, if you own a GPU that is capable of this technology, users should make full use of it to enjoy the content at high resolutions.
How to turn DSR on?
DSR can be turned on via the Nvidia Control Panel. Follow the steps below.
Step 1. Launch Nvidia Control Panel.
Step 2. Head over to the resolution settings.
Step 3. Now, head over to the list of available resolutions, DSR will be listed at the very top along with the multiplier over the current resolution setting.
Step 4. Choose the DSR resolution setting and hit apply.
Step 5. Click OK on the dialogue box that appears.
The display should now display content with the selected multiplier. However, the text and other media will also be reduced by the factor of resolution scaling. This can reduce readability. Readability can be improved by increasing resolution scaling from the Settings app.
DSR will also cut the framerates in any game by a solid margin. Thus, users with a fairly weak GPU should be aware. The system requirements are automatically shifted to the scaled resolution. This can account for a massive performance difference in video games.
