Since the Gray Starstone is an item that is required in the Skill Tree, the only way you can get them is through leveling up. Every time you get salt and fill up the salt bar to gain XP, you will be able to increase your skill level at the Pardoner’s Vale by using salts for Starstones. But you will be only getting Black Starstones more frequently than the Gray ones. That’s because the Gray Starstone is only available at every fifth level, for example, at level 5, level 10, and so on.
The Gray Starstone is mainly used to respec your skills that you have unlocked on the Skill Tree. This is quite handy to use if you wish to rebuild your character attributes or unlock a different skill. Every time you use your Gray Starstone, you will get a refund of the Black Starstones that you have invested previously.
