To unlock a safehouse, you need to activate the generator and get the power moving. The generator can be found somewhere close to the safehouse itself. Let’s take the example of the Shadetree Heights Safehouse, which is the first safehouse you will encounter. When you reach the safehouse spot, you will notice some red or yellow wires leading out from the door.

If you follow the wires, it will lead you to the place where the generator is kept. You would need some lockpicking kits or rewire kits to unlock the door and power up the generator. Along the way, you will meet some enemies, so get rid of them before you make your way to the safe house.

Not all safehouses are built the same, and some of them will contain puzzles to solve before you can unlock the safe house. You can identify a safe house on the map, it is marked as a house icon. When you go to the location, look around the area for a door with the house symbol, as this is the safe house. Once you unlock a safehouse, you can fast-travel here anytime you want.
