Elden Ring’s player base has found a new way to farm runes without actually doing much, and it is turning the PvP experience into turmoil.
The workings in Elden Ring’s PvP are such that a player can use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy to summon invading players into their world or visit an allied player in their world using the summon sign. The player who issues the red summon sign is known to call upon enemies to fight with, and whoever wins will receive Runes. Now there is an exploit where hosts will hide in an area that is unreachable by enemy players and wait till the enemy either die or leave the world, leaving behind a large chunk of Runes. Also, using the Taunter’s Tongue along with the Furlcalling Finger Remedy will call in allied hunters to help take down the invader, resulting in a quick death of either party without much hassle for the host. The most preferred location for hosts to do this is in First Step.
While this may seem like a quick and easy way to farm Runes without playing the game, it has caused a lot of backlash from the community, especially from players who have used the red summon symbol only to find out that they have been fooled. Now, they have started to fight back by having a few tricks up their sleeves.
The Jar Cannon is the first choice of weapon for players to deal massive damage to hosts that are out of reach. If you can spot a player at a high vantage point, then you can easily shoot them down with this weapon. Any projectile weapon will work, but the Jar Cannon deals the most damage of the lot.
In case you find them in the lower ledges, there are two ways you can beat them. If you have some dragon incantations, you can use them as you fall and time it right when you reach the ledge to unleash the spell on the host. You might still fall to your death, but at least the host will get some damage or eventually die. Another handy method is to use the Hand of Malenia’s Waterfowl Dance Ash which causes an animation that makes you float while you levitate to the lower ledges. To use this method, just jump off the edge and spam the Ash till you can land on the ledge safely.
Some players were able to use an AOE spell to offset the hosts, but the success rate for this is few and far between. Nevertheless, the methods above seemed to work for a majority of players who were tricked into this.
