The Prince That Was Promised was mentioned in a Game of Thrones episode called A Clash of Kings, while Daenerys Targaryen witnessed a vision in the House of the Undying. In it, she visualized her older brother, Rhaegar Targaryen, looking upon his son and calling him Aegon, as well as mentioning the phrase The Prince That Was Promised. Aegon could have been about Aegon the Conqueror and the Dream he had prophesied in House of the Dragon. But in both the shows, it was never revealed who the Prince could have been.
The prince or princess that was promised is a person who would appear amidst salt and smoke. They would also pull up a sword called Lightbringer from the flames they came from, and this sword is powerful enough to be used against the darkness that would befall. They were prophesied to be the savior of Lord of Light, a religion followed closely by Stannis Baratheon and red priestess Melisandre in Game of Thrones.
While it was later prophesied that either Jon Snow or Daenerys would be named The Prince/Princess That Was Promised, neither of them placed the final blow on Night King and dispel the army of the undead. It was rather Arya Stark who managed to stop the onslaught, but she too didn’t fit the prophecy. So the question remains at large, as to who might the Prince or Princess be.
According to the novel A Song of Ice and Fire, the Prince was implied to be a reincarnation of Azor Ahai, a legendary warrior who was hailed as a hero thousands of years ago. There was another Long Night during his time, where he rose with his sword, the Lightbringer, and slayed the ones in the darkness.
