In Elden Ring, there are several Avatars of the Erdtree that you will have to defeat in Elden Ring, and Putrid Avatar is one of them. You will be rewarded with 91,000 Runes when you kill this monster. If you’ve defeated the Erdtree Avatar before, it won’t be too difficult of a task but there are some things you need to keep in mind.
How to Defeat Putrid Avatar in Elden Ring
The Putrid Avatar has several attacks that can take you out by inflicting damage that affects you over time such as the Scarlet Rot buildup. You will need to be well prepared and stocked up on healing flasks before you venture in to defeat this foe.
Defense Strategy
The two and three-hit melee combos and magic attacks will be dealt out randomly and you have to watch out for them as they come and dodge out of the way. These powerful attacks might prove to be fatal, so it’s a good idea to be on horseback during the entire fight. You can run away to avoid their attacks on Torrent much faster if you circle around Putrid Avatar.

Their jumping attack will cause Scarlet Rot to build up, which looks like a red cloud and lasts for a few seconds. You have to be very careful to not get into this trap. There will be a short animation where the Putrid Avatar’s posture gets hunched and that is how you know they’re going to be using this attack, to prepare for the jump.
Attack Strategy
For sorcerors, you can easily shoot magic and projectiles from horseback which might seem slow but keep in mind that this enemy has a lot of health to any type of attack will take time. They’re also fast on their feet and will approach you after getting shot a few times, so you will need to reposition yourself.
Melee users will notice that the Putrid Avatar will be vulnerable after some of their more powerful attacks, where you can run to them quickly and hit once before dodging away. Make sure to use a heavy weapon with a high DPA to quickly end the fight.
