In order to unlock playing in Competitive mode, you will need to finish 50 Quick Play encounters and prove that you’re a veteran. When you know you’ve got what it takes, you will need to complete the First-Time User Experience task above. However, this does not apply for players who are using the same account that they used to play Overwatch on, as long as they have played enough matches.
In Competitive mode, you get ranked only when you have at least 7 wins or 20 losses. Single match evaluations have been revoked, and you will be judged on consistency. For even 7 wins or 20 losses, you will be promoted or demoted in rank.
There are two different rankings – Role Queue and Open Queue. While in Role Queue you are restricted on your team composition, you are free to choose any class you want in Open Queue. You will receive a Universal Ranking for playing in Open Queue. Additionally, if you take a break from the game, the Decay Mechanic ensures that your rank will decrease gradually.
