Hideo Kojima came forth with his vision of how he would like the Death Stranding movie adaptation to be portrayed. While talking in an interview with IGN about his new office space, he mentioned how movies adapted from video games focus more on “famous actors and flashy explosions”.
Kojima further explained his visions of how he wishes to bring his creation to life on the big screen. He mentioned that Alex Lebovici from Hammerstone Studios shared the same vision, and wishes to take an arthouse approach while filming. “Making money isn’t something I’m focused on at all, either”, Kojima states during the interview and plans to not make it flashy like other video game adaptations.
The founder of Kojima Productions mentioned how video game adaptations usually fail since they tried to recreate the game in its entirety. “I made Death Stranding to be a game, and games are games. There’s no real need to turn them into films”, Kojima said. The direction he will take for producing Death Stranding will be very different, and he hopes it will inspire people to become creators in the future.
As for whether the characters from the game will make an appearance in the movie, Kojima stated that it is not decided upon. Viewers and gamers alike can expect a completely different vision once Death Stranding makes an appearance on the big screen.
