The Call of Duty series has been under backlash for the longest time for its buggy gameplay and issues that take ages to fix. Raven Software has acknowledged some, but not all, the bugs in the game, so players are left to find out how to get fixes on their own. One of the bugs that players have come across in Call of Duty is that the multiplayer has stopped working or will not let them play in Modern Warfare after doing the Warzone Pacific Update. It is a recurring problem but there seems to be no official fix for it yet. Below we will look at some of the tips that you can use to fix the error yourself in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
How to Fix Bug Modern Warfare Multiplayer Not Working after Pacific Update (For Xbox, PC, PS4, and PS5)
Since there is no official fix for this bug yet from Raven Software, players have taken it upon themselves to find out the solution to this problem. If you are one of the players who are not being able to log into the multiplayer section of Modern Warfare after downloading the Warzone Pacific Update, then you can follow the steps below to see if they work for you.
Reasons for Multiplayer crash in Modern Warfare
Some of the reasons for your multiplayer to not let you log in might be because of the following.
- Missing Multiplayer Packages
- Using the Cold War Launcher
- Corrupted Cache Files
- Improper/Inconsistency of game license
How to Fix Call of Duty Modern Warfare Multiplayer in PC, Xbox, and PS
Below are some in-depth solutions for the above issues.
Use the dedicated launcher for the game
Since the two games are merged into one launcher, namely the Cold War launcher, you can try to play the game in their dedicated launchers instead to see if it helps. Launching the game separately seemed to work for some players and is applicable for both PC and console.
For PC:
Double click on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare executable to directly open the game.
For Console:
Use the dedicated list of games to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and avoid the Cold War launcher.
Clear the cache files
Sometimes, faulty or corrupted data can ruin your cache files, making you unable to run the game properly and, in this case, making you unable to log into the multiplayer facility. To clear cache, you can try the following:
Clear cache on PS4 and PS5
There is no dedicated menu that is implemented in the PS4 or PS5, but you can still force clear cached data by doing the following steps:
- While the PS is still on, press and hold down the power button. You will hear a beep sound from the console. In case you short press the power button, it will just take you to reset mode, and we don’t want to do that.
- You will notice that the light indicator stops blinking. At this stage, unplug the power cord behind the PS.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds to a full 2 minutes to completely drain out the power capacitors. What the system is doing is clearing out all the temporary data that is stored in the caches.
- After the period is up, plug the console system back in and start the PS.
- Launch the game to check.
Clear cache on Xbox One
The same steps that were used for the PS are applicable for Xbox as well.
- While the console is still on and not in hibernation mode, press and hold down the power button till the LED light in front of the Xbox goes off.
- Unplug the console from its main socket and wait for 30 seconds to a full minute for the cached data to be cleared out.
- After the allotted time, plug the console back in and launch the game to see if it works.
Clear cache on Xbox Series S, Series X
For the Xbox X and S series, there are dedicated software that can be used in the console to clear the cache. To do this, you will have to:
- Go to the home screen of your Xbox console and press the glowing Xbox logo that is on your controller.
- Go to Profile and System-Settings-All Settings.
- Go to the Device and Connections tab, Select Blu-Ray
- Go to Persistent Storage
- Click on the Clear Persistent Storage. This will help clear the cache.
- Reboot the console
- Launch the game to check.
Clear cache on Steam (for PC)
If you are using Steam to play Modern Warfare, then you may encounter a problem, namely proving the ownership of the game. This is especially troubling if you have recently gotten hold of the game while owning COD: Modern Warfare. Before clearing the cache you will have to verify your game files in Steam.
- Open Steam, login, and go to Library
- Right-click on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Go to Properties, Local Files, then click on Verify Integrity
- Click yes
- Restart your PC and launch the game.
Clear cache on Battle.Net
Battle.Net will require you to manually clear the corrupted cache files.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter, it will open Task Manager. Remove all the Blizzard programs that are running in the background.
- Press in Win + R, in the open bar type-in %ProgramData% and press enter.
- In the Program Data Folder that you just opened, locate the Battle.net and Blizzard Entertainment folders. Delete these folders.
- Restart your PC and launch the game from Battle.Net
Updating the licenses For PS4 and PS5
PS4 and PS5 always have an issue with inconsistent license issues. To fix this, you can do the following:
For PS4:
- Go to your console home screen and go to settings
- Go to Account Management > Restore Licenses. Click Confirm if prompted.
- Wait for it to complete then reboot your console.
Restoring Licenses on PS5
- Go to your home screen and go to Settings
- Click on Users and Accounts. Go to Others>Restore Licenses.
- Click on Restore. Confirm the selection
- Wait for it to complete then reboot your console.
Install all the required Data Packs for PS4, PS5, and Xbox
Since the Multiplayer Data Packs are supplied in split packages, it can become confusing to know which pack is needed for which game. Along with the 90.2 GB of main game data, you will also need the following data packages to solve the issue.
- Multiplayer Pack (6.0 GB)
- Multiplayer/ Spec Ops Pack (6.7 GB)
- Multiplayer/ Spec Ops Pack (12.3 GB)
- Multiplayer Pack 2 (22.1 GB)
If you are missing any of these data packs, you can install them by doing the following.
Install Missing Data Packs on the PS5
- Make sure you have at least 90GB of free storage available on your PS5.
- Launch COD: MW. Stay on the home page of the game
- Press the R3 button on the controller. This will open a menu called Manage Installs.
- Go to the MW Game Pack tab. Install all the mentioned data packs.
- Reboot the console and see if the issue is fixed.
Install Missing Data Packs on the Xbox: Series S and Series X
- Open Microsoft Store from the home screen. Search for Modern Warfare and select the game.
- Scroll down till you can see the ‘In This Bundle” section
- Install the required packs.
- Reboot your Xbox and launch the game
The bottom line is that the last fix is the one that helps the most, but if you are facing problems with license and cache as well then you can follow these steps to help you out. Mostly if your cache and license are working well then the last step is what you should be your main priority. Till there is an official fix confirmed, you can try the steps above to see if it helps solve the issue.
Why are we forced to download new content (Pacific) that we neither requested or want? This download broke Modern Warfare and I only play campaign modes regardless of the game ….. I actually bought Vangard but I’ll return it if my original Modern Warfare cannot be restored.
Fucking game business ! when will it be functional and fixed?
Deleted the entire game and every data pack, then reinstalled.
Still does not work.
Greedy ploy to get people to buy Vanguard…..
Not buying another COD if they don’t fix it
I just went through days of frustration with this. I did the same and reinstalled entire game and all add ons and still had trouble. The one thing that finally worked was I was told to go to Warzone then open your account settings on the dashboard there. Then you should see the last data pack 3 @ 12.3 gb. Not sure what the glitch is and why they make all this so confusing but at least I can play MW again. Good luck
Im on xbox one , I already downloaded all the packs , (all of them) that were in add ons , but it still says mission pack. Should i uninstall the ones i downloaded and only down load the ones you state above?
