Every Call of Duty game enters into an open beta stage before launch. This has become a trend with the series for a few years now. This year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be no exception.
Modern Warfare 2 is scheduled to come out on October 28. The campaign’s early access will begin a week prior. The multiplayer open beta, however, is scheduled for a month before the launch.
How to get access to the Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Open Beta?
The multiplayer open beta will be available to all gamers. It can be downloaded via Steam or the official website. Users who have pre-ordered the game get early access to the open beta. The pre-order eligibility is as follows:
- Digital pre-orders are automatically eligible for the early-access.
- Physical pre-orders can redeem their early access to the beta using this link.
Call of Duty has also given away several codes to avail the early access to the open beta free of charge.
Gamers can play the open beta via the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Series S, Battle.net, and Steam.
When will the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta unlock?
The open beta will unlock early on PlayStation consoles. The first weekend of the open beta will be exclusive to the PS4 and the PS5. Over the next weekend, the open beta will unlock on all platforms. Crossplay will also be enabled.

Can we pre-load Modern Warfare 2 open beta?
Activision has not confirmed whether gamers can pre-load the Modern Warfare 2 open beta.
However, the Beta FAQ page on the official website inadvertently confirmed that the open beta will be available for pre-load. Although we do not know when the game will become available for downloading, gamers will get the chance to load the content to maximize their time in the beta.
What game modes and maps will come in Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta?
Activision has been silent about the game modes that will make their way into the open beta. However, we got to see the Marina Bay Grand Prix map recently. This map will be present in every 6v6 game mode. But, we need more information before giving any concrete verdict.
Judging from trends, Call of Duty mostly introduces a handful of small maps with the open beta mode. The game modes mostly seen include S&D (Search and Destroy), Kill Confirmed, and Domination. These modes make up for the standard Call of Duty experience.
The Open Betas also have a level cap. Although we do not have concrete information, it can be Level 30 for the first weekend. The level cap may be increased up to level 50 on the second weekend.
