So if you have missed some pets or want to go back to a town to scavenge, then you can do so. Whenever you visit the town, city, or village for the first time, they will have missions for you to complete. After the mission is over, you will be tasked with going to the next town or city to find something more to do.

While you cannot immediately go back to the same town to scavenge for more loot, you can do so eventually. If you wait long enough, you will find certain world encounters whenever you check the map, and they will pop up in areas where you have previously visited. Now all you have to do is visit the town, and help your allies, and instead of leaving, you can scavenge for more items or adopt more pets.
