Marvel Studios has an expanding lineup of superheroes that will hit the screens this year. Up next is a WandaVision spinoff series called Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which has already started its production in December of last year. Kathryn Hahn will return to the spinoff series as the villainess Agatha Harkness. Agatha was Wanda Maximoff and Vision’s neighbor in Westview, and also a powerful witch who lost the battle with Wanda. Towards the end of WandaVision, Agatha was shown to be trapped in her Agnes persona by the Scarlet Witch.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos started production on December 13th, but wrapped up briefly for the holidays on December 17th. The show production has picked up again, and it is speculated that the first episode will air sometime during the winter of 2023/2024, but no release date has been fixed so far. The series will have 9 episodes and will be streamed on Disney+.
Besides Kathryn Hahn, the show will also feature Emma Caulfield Ford, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Patti LuPone. Emma Caulfield Ford will reprise her role as Sarah Proctor, another resident of Westview who earlier went under the alias Dottie Jones. As for the rest of the cast, the character role is still officially undisclosed. WandaVision’s Jac Schaeffer will return to the show as the executive producer and writer along with Kevin Feige. Gandja Monteiro will also have a say in the show and will be directing one or more episodes in the series.
The producers are still tight-lipped about the show’s plotline, but it might follow the aftermath of Agatha Harkness’ escape from her Agnes Persona, as well as introducing other witches from the MCU. More details might emerge once production is in full swing.
