Dying Light 2 can be an extremely dark game, more so in the night. However, if you decide to explore buildings or enter dark zones during the day, the game is going to starve you off the light. But, there is a cool little feature called “flashlight”. It will help you to significantly combat the realistic dark portions of the game. And you guessed it right, it is the flashlight Aiden carries.
In your first couple hours in the game, you might miss out on this feature as the game does not flat out ask you to turn out the flashlight or you will die. Also, there are a few quirks to this feature.
The Other Side of Using the Flashlight
While using the flashlight will be necessary during the nighttime and in dark areas, the feature can also become a curse in disguise, Using the flashlight will make you more noticeable to both human enemies and the turned creatures. So, you are going to get spotted easily.
So, if you are using stealth, using the flashlight will blow your cover instantly.
Also, if you are just working your way throughout Villedor, getting spotted by a Howler in the nighttime can end up initiating a chase, which does not end pretty well all of the time.
How to Use the Flashlight Effectively
The default key binding for turning the flashlight on or off is T on your keyboard or directional pad down in case of an Xbox or PlayStation controller.
However, you should learn to effectively toggle the flashlight. Try to use it as little as possible. If you are trying to get something done stealthily, use your survival instinct by pressing Q. It will give you an overlook of the nearby surroundings including all of the enemies, loot, and everything you want to know.
So, for a wrap, the flashlight can be toggled by pressing T on your keyboard or D-pad down on controllers. However, use it with caution.
