Fix PS4 and PS5 Controller Not Working in God of War PC
All Windows systems face a problem of recognizing external or third-party operators, so it will be a common occurrence for you to have your PS5 DualSense or the PS4 DualShock rejected by the system. Disable Steam Input
- This method may work if your PS controller is connected wirelessly.
- Go to the Steam library.
- Right-click on God of War and select Properties
- Scroll down to the Controller tab
- Go to Override for God of War. Select the Disable Steam Input
- Launch the game.
The prompts that come up might be from the Xbox UI, so if you wish to change it, you will need to connect the controller to your PC using a USB-C cable. If you get a “USB Unrecognized” prompt while plugging it in, unplug your controller, press and hold the middle button of the controller till the light flashes blue and stops. Plug it into your PC and it will start working now.
DS4Windows
Another way to get around without connecting with a wire is to use DS4Windows. This helps fix the issue of getting Xbox prompts while playing on your PS4 and PS5 controllers.
- After disabling Steam input, exit the game and go to https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases
- Download the zip file from Version 3.0.18 or anything latest, either the 64 or 86 version.
- Unzip it and run the DS4Updater.exe
- Select the option to install the DS4 Driver
- Click the Finish button once it is done and run the DS4Windows.exe
- Click on the Program Folder button and check for your controller in the list.
- Click on the Edit button and click on other
- Go to Virtual Controller Settings and select the PS controller you are using under the Emulated Controller setting
- Go to Touchpad setting > Output Mode: Passthru
- Click Apply and Save
You can use any other third-party software that will enable you to use your controller, but the DS4 Driver seems to be the most popular one with proper controller-to-PC support.
In case your controller is not recognized or says it is disconnected from the DS4Windows, make sure it is properly connected to your controller before opening up the settings in the DS4Windows and enable Hide DS4 Controller. Save and restart your system for the effect to take place.
The controller is connected via Bluetooth.
Go to Steam Settings and click on Controller and go to General Controller Settings. You can see an option called Wireless Controller under detected controllers. Clicking on this will prompt you to map out manually what each button is supposed to do. Also, go to “Other”, and set the BT Poll Rate to Max (1ms) to have a lag-free connection.
These are just some ways to make your PS4 or PS5 controller work on your PC while playing God of War.
