Just like how it was in the Souls series if players were familiar with the play style of the previous games, then looking through the Classes’ page in the character screen will be all too familiar. Based on which class you choose, you will get your starting stats distributed accordingly. If you wish, you can also assign them yourself and pick your weapons and gear according to your likings.
Below are all the best Classes in each category: Melee and Magic
Melee Class
Hero
If you are a new player and are looking for a simple character build with high Endurance and Strength, then the Hero Class is for you. Heroes are effective in melee combat, taking extra hits before facing ultimate doom. Couple that with great stats, this build is not one to be missed.
Warrior
Warrior Class is higher on the Dexterity side than its Hero Counterpart, which will make you use your speed as a source of power. You won’t have a shield to help you out when you start here, so you will need to take in the extra damage that will be dealt with you.
Bandit
While the Bandit can rely on its speed, since its Dexterity is the highest among all the classes, it also owns high stats in Arcane, which is handy if you want to go around and loot items. Bandits are also resistant to instant death and come equipped with a bow and arrow, making it a great class for ranged attacks.
Vagabond
Vagabond’s stats are divided into Dexterity, Vigor, and Strength, which makes it an all-rounder. If you are unsure about which melee class to pick, then the Vagabond is the best in all.
Samurai
The Samurai’s speed is unmatched when in battle, as this class utilizes its high dexterity stats to zip through enemies and avoid getting hit. You also get a flaming bow and arrow as well as the Katana as your starting weapons.
Magic Classes
Prisoner
Prisoners are known for high Dexterity and Intelligence, but that does not mean that this class only sticks to magic attacks. You can swap your Prisoner to take up melee attacks as well.
Prophet
The healer in Elden Ring, the Prophet’s stats fall heavily on Faith and Mind, which gives a boost to healing and transformation spells. The Prophet can easily wield the Dragon Transformation spell and the Beast Claw as well, so if you are looking out for that, then the Prophet is your best bet.
Astrologer
While the low HP may turn off many players, the Astrologer can make up for it with its high DPS. The Astrologer is great for spell casting at the range, but you have to make sure that you do not deplete your Focus Points quickly.
Confessor
The Confessor is a well-rounded magic class that has high Strength and Dexterity coupled with Mind and Faith stats, making it more melee-centric.
Most Versatile Class
The Wretch
While they may appear to be a more balanced sort of class and starts at a lower level, you can assign any attribute to the Wretch later on in the game, and this class is great for a long grind in Elden Ring.
