Players of the 2019 battle royale, Apex Legends, are enjoying a new move called The Punch-Boost, which allows players to speed down slopes.
Apex Legends is known for its fast-based action gameplay, maneuvering tactics, weapon play, and movement-specific abilities.
The problem with most movement specified techniques is that some are hard to master, such as tap-strafing or super-gliding. Though these moves might help more experienced players win the battle, for newer players it might seem like a daunting task.
Fortunately for them, the Punch-Boost is quite easy to learn and is also a lot of fun. Made popular by Youtuber wrthcrw, the step-by-step video is easy to follow. The Punch-Boost gives players a “Boost” down slopes at an accelerated speed.
Here is the breakdown of the video:
- To start, the Punch-Boost works best when you are moving backward down a hill or any elevated, sloped surface.
- Crouch-walk up the slope.
- “Punch” on the slope while crouching, while holding down your backward key (S key/ back on the controller)
- If executed correctly, players will move at a much higher speed than what was initially given.
This technique can be done on any map and any inclined area. Doing the Punch-Boost knocks off roughly 10 seconds from the total time spent going down the hill. Players would have to do this technique consecutively to gain momentum. But beware of jumping, as this will cut all the hard work that has gone into this and will break the momentum.
As for what Legends this would work well with, wrthcrw suggests using Octane or Horizon, as the trick was most prominently effective with these two. Players can also use the Punch-Boost in conjunction with other techniques like Tap-Strafing.
With the punch-boost, you can throw your enemies off guard. The only drawback to this move is players won’t be able to draw out their guns since they will be so busy punching, in turn making them vulnerable. However, it is still a neat trick to learn and quite handy to use if you want to gain a lot of speed.
