The Geforce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB card is one of the most powerful cards available in the market currently. It is based on the same 8nm GA102 GPU as the older RTX 3080 was. However, the card is faster than its non-Ti brother. But, does the slight performance difference justify the price difference between these two cards? Let us find out.
The Geforce RTX 3080 Ti
The Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is an absolute behemoth of a card. It packs 10,240 CUDA cores, 320 Texture Mapping Units (TMUs), 112 Render Output Units (ROPs), and 12GB of the newer GDDR6X memory standard. The card has a TDP of 350W. It looks extremely impressive on paper.
We have seen the RTX 3080 struggle in some games like Watch Dogs: Legion, Far Cry 6, and Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolutions. The RTX 3080 Ti, being 5-10% faster reduces the frame drops significantly. It makes the unplayable titles playable as they surpass the 30 FPS mark.
Thus, we can conclude that the RTX 3080 Ti is capable of handling all modern-day AAA titles at 4K resolutions. The card costs a steep $959. Let us look at the competition for a bit. The RX 6800 XT, which is a direct competitor to the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3080 Ti, costs only $639. This makes the RTX 3080 Ti look overpriced.
The RTX 3080 Ti is indeed overpriced. The introductory price from Nvidia was laughable, and the card still has not hit the MSRP numbers and is being scalped. If you are looking for value for your money, consider the much (much) cheaper RX 6800 XT card from AMD. It is available at MSRP. And, the performance difference at 4K is negligible when compared to the RTX 3080 Ti.
Conclusion
Although the RTX 3080 Ti is a great piece of technology, we are not comfortable recommending it because of the horrible pricing.
