Dying Light 2 is a survival horror game that heavily relies on parkour to get anywhere, and one of the ways it lets players do so is with the help of the Grappling Hook. This is a handy tool that allows players to easily swing from building to building by throwing the hook up at an elevated surface, as they run from zombies and attempt to complete mission objectives. To find out how to get the best use out of it and upgrade it accordingly, keep reading this guide.
How to Use Grappling Hook in Dying Light 2
There are over 3000 parkour animations in the game that the player can unlock and the ones with the Grappling Hook involve some of them. The prequel Dying Light, too, has a Grappling Hook, however, the mechanics to unlock them are different in the game. Whereas Dying Light lets the player unlock the item simply by advancing in the game’s skill tree mechanics, the new game lets you have it after you finish a particular mission. However, once you have the item, it’s all yours to use.
The Grappling Hook is easily one of the most powerful and vital parkour tools in the game, so it is natural that players expect to obtain it. However for Dying Light 2, players will need to progress in their main story missions and unlock the Grappling Hook by completing a fair bit of them as this particular mission comes quite late into the story. Before the Grappling Hook, you will also come across a mission that lets you obtain a Bow which is useful for ranged attacks.

It is pretty easy to unlock the Grappling Hook once you come across the “Broadcast” mission which will take you through it. It’s embedded into a wall as part of some abandoned equipment and you just need to reach for it.
Using the Grappling Hook
When you begin to use it, you will find that it only swings at a particular distance, and it is rather limited. But this can be easily remedied by taking the Grappling Hook to any Craftmaster in the city in order to upgrade it with in-game currency.
How to Upgrade the Grappling Hook in Dying Light 2
Here’s how you can upgrade the item:
- Once you’ve found a Craftmaster, click on the “Upgrade” tab.
- Choose the Grappling Hook under Nightrunner Tools.
- Pay the Craftrunner 2000 Old World Money and give him 2 Military Tech.
This will upgrade your blueprint for the Grappling Hook and you can use it to reach for longer distances. Swing yourself around the city and avoid slow zombies during the day as you finish the rest of your missions. Be careful about zombies in the night, as they turn absolutely ravenous for brains and blood.
