In return for a place to live, they will bring their trade or profession with them to help you. You can make use of every villager in your town, but you need to know how to check the different options available.

There are plenty of professions available in the game, and you can put them to work with additional tasks. You will definitely need the help as you construct more structures. While there are some people which specialized skill sets, you also need some ordinary laborers. While they don’t have a trade, they will be able to do any and all odd tasks that you give them.
You can assign the tasks to certain workers if you want to. This is possible by viewing the labor pool. Check the top left corner of your screen. In case you don’t have enough workforce for the tasks, the number will be red. You can make a villager do a different task through the professions screen.
In case you want more builders, you can choose people to do a particular building task. The other tasks work in similar ways.
