Capturing a Flying Gyarados is no easy feat, and you will have to follow a couple of tips to get the attention of the Water/Flying-type Pokémon. You will first need to get to Star Rank 2, and you can increase your Star Rank by doing the main story mission, completing Pokedex entries, and earning enough research points. You can reach Star Rank 2 fairly quickly, after which you can get the recipe to craft Feather Balls. To craft a Feather Ball, you will need one Apricorn and one Sky Tumblestone, then take these materials for crafting in the Workbench. We have an entire guide on how to forge a Feather Ball, and all the other Poke Ball variants as well. You will need at least 20 Feather Balls to capture the flying Gyarados.
After that, make your way to Obsidian Fieldlands and get to the Heights Camp. From there, head east till you reach the edge of the cliff, which will give you a good view of the Obsidian Falls. You can also go up the small hill on the south of the cliff to get a better vantage point. Flying Gyarados’ path crosses the Obsidian Falls, so you can have a good look at it. Pre-aim your Feather Ball while you wait for Gyarados to fly past you, and position it slightly above, to not let it bounce off in the odd chance that it hits the Pokémon’s underside. One Feather Ball is not enough, and you will need to nearly empty your entire arsenal before you can capture the Flying Gyarados. Once you have caught it, you can add it to your party, as its stats are quite good in battle.
