Several veteran developers from Blizzard Entertainment spun off to form an independent development studio by the name of Frost Giant Studios in 2020. Frost Giant reportedly has been working on a real-time strategy game since its inception. The studios are ready to showcase the title they had been working on this year in Summer Game Fest Showcase.
The Summer Game Fest Showcase is scheduled for June 9 this year. Several other games that will also be seen in the showcase include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, The Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights, and Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. The event will be around one and a half to two hours long and will be packed with information on upcoming games and reveals. Several developers and publishers are going to be present at the event.
Frost Giant’s plans to revive the dying real-time strategy genre surfaced in 2020 when it started to raise the funds required for its debut title. Since most of the devs working at these studios are ex-Blizzard, they have first-hand experience working on titles like StarCraft 2, Warcraft, and Command and Conquer. Thus, we can expect that Frost Giant’s debut title will be interesting.
Frost Giant Studios announced their presence at the event on Twitter. The tweet mentioned “Real Time Strategy Returns”, thereby warming up the anticipation of the title the studios are working on.
The Summer Game Fest will begin on June 9 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET / 5 PM BST. We will see the announcements from all of the publishers and developers during the two-hour-long showcase.
The real-time strategy genre had been suffering for the last decade as video games moved toward online titles. Age of Empires got a sequel after a long time last year. Now, with Frost Giant’s upcoming title, the future of RTS seems to be bright.
