Fortnite is a popular multiplayer battle royal, but the game isn’t without any faults. Some players are having difficulties accessing sound in their Fortnite game. This issue seems to be prevalent in both Xbox One and PC. If you are one of them, you can refer to our guide to get a quick fix to the issue.
How to Fix Fortnite Sound/Audio
Some players have experienced this issue while in the game, and it occurs on both Xbox and PC. It will be quite annoying to not get any audio feed, especially if you need to talk to your teammates in the game. Some players have posted quick troubleshooting methods that seem to work for some but not for all. With the guide below we hope that it will help solve the issue.
For PC
Check mute option
Sometimes sound would be muted by default on your PC, so you will have to check if the audio is working fine.
- Launch the game on PC and then minimize it.
- Go to Windows Settings
- Click on System and select Sound
- Check the input and output devices and if they are working.
- If it is not working correctly, run a troubleshooter.
- Go to the Advanced sound option
- Go to App volume and device preference
- Look for Fortnite and check if the sound is muted or not.
Check default playback device
Sometimes, if the default playback device is not set, the audio won’t work. To check if your PC is using the right playback device:
- Remove and insert the plug of your audio device into the PC
- Close the game and go to Control Panel
- Click on Sound and go to Playback
- Find your audio device, right-click and check “Set as Default”
- Go to Recording and check if the audio device is set as default
- Launch Fortnite and check if the issue is fixed.
Update the audio device drivers.
You will need to check if the latest audio device drivers are installed on your PC.
- Go to Device Manager and go to Audio Inputs and Outputs
- Select the audio device by right-clicking on it
- Click on Update Driver. Download the latest version.
For Xbox One
Check audio settings in Xbox One
- Press the Xbox Button. Navigate to Profile and System>Settings>General>Volume and audio output
- Go to Speaker Audio and Select the HDMI audio
- Select Stereo Uncompressed.
Check HDMI cable
If your HDMI cable is not properly plugged into your Xbox or audio device, you might not be able to hear any audio. You will need to physically check the cable connection and if the cable has not incurred any damage. Replacing the cable for a better brand might also work.
Check connectivity issues.
Usually, the HDMI cable will connect from your set-top box to the Xbox directly, then would connect the Xbox to the TV. This would fix most audio issues.
Check the set-top-box
Sometimes the issue stems from the set-top box. You can reset it by doing the following:
- Disconnecting all the cables from the set-top box
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Plug in all the cables back into the set-top box
- Open the game to check if the sound issues have been fixed.
While using an over-the-air set-top box, sometimes you might get poor audio from the antenna, and might cause some sound issues. You can also make sure that the HD antenna is not the one causing any problems.
These quick troubleshooting tips might help you get your sound back in Fortnite. If these don’t help then you would have to seek a professional opinion or change your audio output devices.
