Having the proper Pictos in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can be a game-changer, particularly when battles begin to get more challenging. These are potent boosts that provide your party with a much-needed boost and can tip the balance in challenging encounters.

Some Pictos will find it easier to go with particular characters, but the bright side is that any of your party members can wear them. That being said, activating the Lumina on the highest-ranked Pictos early is a good strategy—once active, all the members of your party can make use of them. You’ll be earning more Pictos as you go through the Acts in the game.

What are Pictos in Expedition 33?

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Pictos are among the best ways of increasing your characters, and getting mastery of them is essential to dealing with whatever the game can dish out.

Once a Picto has been assigned to a character and used in four battles, it will become unlocked, allowing you to designate it to any character for use with Lumina Points. Better still, these unlocked Pictos act passively so that you can layer up several effects simultaneously. The only practical restriction is how many Lumina Points you’ve accumulated, so the more you rack up, the more power you can accumulate.

Painted Power

Painted Power eradicates the 9,999 damage limit, making it a necessary component in every build on every character. Without it, you’ll be constantly capping out on your damage output, leaving loads of potential in the dust. Once it’s unlocked, it should be one of the initial Luminas you allocate to your party.

Augmented Counter

All three Augmented Counter forms are great additions to your Lumina team. They increase your damage when you successfully parry an enemy attack—a massive advantage in a game that punishes and rewards timing and defence. If you have faith in your parries, this can mean massive bonus damage even when it’s not your turn.

Clea’s Life

Hard to get, but well worth it. Clea’s Life completely heals your HP if you haven’t been damaged at all since your previous turn. It combines wonderfully with buffs such as Full Strength, allowing your characters to remain in top power longer. It is ideal for sustained and tactical defence-built characters.

Double Burn

When you cast both a Burn stack and Double Burn, it applies another one automatically, duplicating your damage-over-time pressure. It’s particularly powerful with Maelle’s Rain of Fire, and when used with Combustion, you can stack and spend up to 10 Burn effects for a massive damage spike. It’s a game-saver in Act 2’s boss battle and beyond.

Second Chance

Picked up mid-game, Second Chance awards one free revival per fight at maximum HP. No AP was used, and no Revive Tint was required. Use it right away when acquired—it will probably bail your run out on the big boss fight soon after it is discovered. As with the others, unlocking its Lumina is an excellent method to share the insurance blanket among your team.

Gradient Fighter

A late-game favourite, Gradient Fighter increases the damage of Gradient Attacks by 25%. These abilities are already powerful, and this Picto allows you to take them even further in the most challenging battles in the final act. Its low Lumina cost also makes it simple to apply to your entire team for those legendary final battles.
