Lune fills the classic RPG party spellcaster slot in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but she’s far from conventional. While she can hurl fireballs and lightning bolts with reckless abandon, her real power comes into play when you switch between her elemental spells to trigger their Stain effects.
With her powerful damage-dealing attack spells and strong healing abilities, Lune is easily the most versatile member of the Expedition 33 crew. The biggest challenge? Whittling her build down to just six Skills. If you want to make the most of her magic in the strange world of Clair Obscur, this is the way to go.
Strategy for Using Lune in Expedition 33

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Lune’s primary focus should be dealing heavy damage using the elements enemies are weakest to—aside from the occasional clutch heal. For that, Agility and Might are a great stat combo: Agility helps her act more often, while Might boosts her offensive power. Her third attribute depends on the weapon she is equipped with. If you’re leaning into her Lightning spells, which often hit multiple times and can crit, Luck is a solid pick.
Pictos And Lumina
She hasn’t got much time to spare on regular attacks, so giving her Energising Start I is a no-brainer—it keeps her AP flowing from turn one. Augmented First Strike and SOS Power push her already decent damage to the maximum, while Dead Energy I and Sweet Kill enable her to stick in the fight longer by healing as she eliminates foes.
Another advantage? Lune can restore allies without using Tints, so Shared Care is a great support option. And if she’s teaming up with Maelle, consider Critical Burn—both of them have excellent ways of applying Burn and can take advantage of the extra crit chance this Lumina provides.
Skills
When gearing Lune’s Skills, take into account the enemies in the current area. Load her with spells that take advantage of their weaknesses, and always keep at least two different elements so that her Stain synergy is always active. That way, she’s never short on useful options.
Most importantly, balance her spell costs. Mix in low- and high-AP skills so she’s never compelled to use a basic attack or spend a turn on energy. Spells like Thermal Transfer, which restore AP, are lifesavers when you need a quick top-up. Lune is at best when she’s casting something every turn.
Using Lune’s Stains Properly in Expedition 33

Whenever Lune casts one of her Skills, it leaves behind one or more Stains, magical residues charged on the radiating glyph she uses as a weapon. These Stains will appear on the right side of the screen in her turn. Usually, a Skill leaves behind Stains that have the same element (such as Fire Stains for fire magic, or Ice Stains for ice magic), although there are abilities that can leave behind Light Stains as well.
All spells that Lune can cast have a secondary effect that will happen if she has the proper set of Stains, displayed at the bottom of each Skill description. There is only one Stain needed to trigger a bonus on early-game Skills, but higher-level spells have a special set of several.
These Stain-based advantages will have the following effects: deal damage or healing, reduce the AP cost of the spell, or add other status effects. If Lune has the Stains she needs in her reservoir when she casts an available one, they will be drained automatically. There is no stopping that from occurring, except by changing to another Skill, but fear not, she will not use them if she cannot afford the full cost of the upgraded effect.
One of the best tips is to cycle Lune’s spell so that her Skills transition smoothly into one another. Early game, alternating between fire and ice will be a good idea, or you can switch between fire and lead into lightning spells and dish out some real damage.
