As you start playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the early game presents a destroyed world at the mercy of extinction, with several powerful and strange wonders roaming everywhere. The Chromatic Ballet is a trio of enemies representing the desolation of the world before your eyes.

This trio of powerful enemies dance, or the deadliest dance you’ll stumble across in the game. They’ll pull you into a false sense of safety by performing a hypnotic dance, but the moment you let your guard down, the actual fight begins, and you understand what you’re up against. Being hovering enemies, it can be frustrating to defeat them, and they literally dance their way through your attacks, dodging everything.

Location of Chromatic Ballet Bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

You’ll find the Chromatic Ballet in Old Lumière, but you won’t be battling them right away in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. You’ll need to defeat Renoir, the story boss for this zone in Act 2, first. With Renoir defeated, go back to the first Rest Point that you enabled in the zone.

Follow it from there in the direct path until the path splits up—this is where Monoco ruined the buildings on your first trip. This time, go right and walk until you get to another Rest Point called Train Station Ruins. This one has the familiar Expedition 42 flag. Keep going on the path here, and you’ll get a glimpse of the Chromatic Ballet from above when you head downhill.

Chromatic Ballet Bosses Attack Pattern

Dance Combo

The fight starts with the Chromatic Ballet shooting several projectiles at a single character. The red and blue attacks correspond to their elemental damages, such as the red ones can inflict burn, while blue projectiles can freeze you.

Since the boss rhythmically shoots them, you can memorise the attack pattern to evade the upcoming round of projectiles. The rhythm of the projectiles follows the order below:

  • The first two are slow.
  • The next two are shot quickly together.
  • The subsequent two follow the same pattern.
  • The final shot is slow.

The pattern of these attacks might feel random at first, but once you start trying to parry it, make sure to evade the projectile when it starts to move, right after it’s charged.

Summons a Clone

This enemy can summon two elemental clones, which can replicate their weaknesses and resistances.

  • Blue clones absorb Ice and are weak to Fire.
  • Red clones absorb Fire and are weak to Ice.

Switching Stances

The boss’s or the clones’ hair colour changes to red or blue, indicating changes in weaknesses and resistances.

Gradient Fall

The enemy flies into the air and targets any one character while landing the single Gradient Attack. However, you can parry this move by aiming for Gradient Parry. As it is just a single-hit attack, make sure to parry it just before the boss or the clone lands.

How to Defeat Chromatic Ballet Bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The Chromatic Ballet consists of three flying enemies in Expedition 33, making it difficult because they are far more adept at avoiding your attacks. The way to hit them consistently is to use aimed attacks. Putting on the Augmented Aim Pictos is a good move since it increases your free aim by 50% damage and also increases your crit rate.

Plan your attack accordingly to the weakness of the three enemies mentioned below:

  • The left one is weak to Fire.
  • The middle one is weak to Dark.
  • The right one is weak to Ice.

Aside from that, all of their attacks are normal, but then this one attack is different from the rest, namely, the Enchanting attack. It charms one member of your party if it lands, and they’re useless for a bit. In order to avoid it, try to deflect the third blast in the sequence of the attack, or simply use an Anti-Charm Pictos to deflect it outright.

They spit out a mixture of fire and ice attacks, projectiles, and melee attacks. The projectiles make a distinct sound effect, so listen carefully and jump appropriately. The melee attacks are telegraphed and can usually be parried without interrupting the flow.
