Candace is the new upcoming 4-star character in Genshin Impact Version 3.1. She’s the protector of Aaru Village and her scenes in the Version 3.1 Trailer were certainly impressive to leave a mark. Her kit and early impressions are already leaked by Beta players and it looks like most of them will be true even upon release.
While she may look like a badass and her character design is surely something to bow for, she may not be the top-tier 4-star most players are expecting. In fact, she may even follow suit with Genshin Impact’s recent string of disappointing but niche 4-star units. In this article, we’ll discuss why it may not be wise to spend your primogems just for this new 4-star character.
The Problem with Candace
Candace is a 4-star Hydro polearm unit and she’s the first Hydro polearm unit in the game. Her E skill is similar to Beidou or Yun Jin and her overall kit functions closest to Yun Jin’s as it buffs normal attacks (NAs) of her teammates.
Her damage buff works exactly like that of Yun Jin in the sense that they are added to their teammates’ normal attacks before damage modifiers and CRIT are counted. This is a significant jump in the NAs of her teammates. The problem is that most players already have Yun Jin at this point and her buff to NAs are higher than Candace’s buff.
The second element of Candace’s kit that actually makes her unique is that she provides Hydro infusion to the NAs of her teammates. While this may sound cool and useful, her infusions have ICDs too so you can’t continuously trigger Hydro reactions. Additionally, not many characters will use or even need the Hydro infusion in the first place just like Bennett’s C6. Most characters already have an elemental infusion built into their elemental bursts and the recent characters’ elemental infusion explicitly cannot be overridden.
At best this could be used in specific and niche team comps but otherwise, it serves no real functional purpose. It’s getting more and more likely that Candace will follow Genshin Impact’s recent string of disappointing 4-star characters who have niche uses, are nerfs or better characters or simply come with incomplete kits.
