The Rings of Power has begun, and three episodes were already released. In these three episodes, a wide range of characters have been introduced with several unique and mysterious artifacts and weapons. Sauron is one of the most popular characters in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Morgoth, though he was defeated at the end of the First Age in the War of Wraith, his name and evil touch lasted until many years later during the Second and Third Ages. This guide will help you know the history of Morgoth.
The Rings of Power- Will Morgoth Appear?
Morgoth’s original name was Melkor. He was a Valor, who were the Ancient beings of Arda. The moment Morgoth came into being, he started causing trouble. He destroyed the Two Trees of Valinor, killed Finwe, and stole the Silmarils. This rebellion of Morgoth started from his jealousy towards his creator, Iluvatar, and his powers. He wanted to rule the World.
Iluvatar sent him with other Valar to Arda, but due to his increasing greed, he started throwing tantrums and tried to suppress his companions. But suddenly, he left to a remote region and left everyone there. Though this remoteness of Morgoth did not last long, his lust for power forced him to start a battle with the Valar and stop their progress in Arda. This was the first war between Morgoth and Valar that he lost and Valar completed constructing Arda.
He got the point that he had to change the strategy, so he planted his spies to get news. Once he got the information about the celebration party of the Valar, he attacked them during the party and destroyed the balance of the World by beating the Almaren. But he soon retreated, and the Valar made the Valinor and the Two Trees to light the World.
As time progressed, Morgoth created his own army and made a fortress named Sauron. After that, several battles took place, and once the Valar captured him. But he begged for forgiveness and promised that he would change. His prayer was granted, but Morgoth didn’t change a little bit; instead, he became more dangerous. He started spreading rumors and attracting the Elves to join him. Eventually, he captured Silmarils.
Finally, in the War of Wrath, the Valar army was led by Earendil. They captured and chained Morgoth and eliminated him into a void where time doesn’t exist. This is how, finally, they freed themselves and the World from the evil powers of Morgoth.
In The Rings of Power series, the character of Morgoth is not featured yet; but keeping the fact in mind that he did not really die during the War of Wraith, he can be brought back to the story. Throughout Tolkien’s work, a prophecy often found that the villain would rise again. Though the author himself never tried to bring Morgoth back, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the series writers can’t do that. Therefore, probably, Morgoth will appear in The Rings of Power in the future. However, it’s just an assumption.
