The Rings of Power Episode 4 is out, but the question is still unclear; who is the Stranger who landed on Middle Earth? In Episode 1, fans of the Lord of the Rings prequel got to witness a meteor heading straight for Middle-Earth, and upon investigating it, young Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh) was shocked to know it was no meteor, but a humanoid being.
His listed name in Amazon Prime’s cast list is just noted as The Stranger, and there is no more information about him. He could also communicate via fireflies in the series, and used meteor-like transportation to sort of travel to the world. He could also use fire and set things alight, giving him Maiar-like abilities.
So one could suggest that the humanoid being might be Gandalf the Gray, since Maiars can shapeshift into different beings, and Gandalf was known to be a shapeshifter himself. Some fans speculate that The Stranger could be Olórin, which was a moniker that he took up before he was known as Gandalf the Gray. Plus, his ability to talk through moths and eagles, plus igniting objects and using fire, makes him a strong contender to be The Stranger.
But many theories dispel this, and one of the common causes to disacknowledge Gandalf as not the Stranger is because The Rings of Power takes place before his time. The three Maiars, Gandalf, Radagast, and Saruman, have only arrived on Middle-Earth well into the Third Age, which is not where the Rings of Power currently take place.
There are some speculations that The Stranger could be from a group of Maiars before Gandalf, called the Blue Wizards. The Blue Wizards have stepped foot on Middle-Earth during the Second Age, so there could be a close possibility that he is someone who is trying to stop Sauron. Only time will tell who The Stranger could be.
