The River of Blood Katana is a late-game weapon, and like most weapons, can only be got after defeating a boss. You will have to venture into the Mountaintop of the Giants, towards the northeast section of the map. Once there, you will need to find the Church of Repose. You can find it somewhere in the southeast. Once you enter it, you will meet Okina the Bloody Finger. It will try to inflict bleed status if its weapon hits you. It will also try to heal, which gives you the window of opportunity to put in a couple of slashes. Once it is defeated, you will get the River of Blood Katana, as well as 700 Runes and the Okina’s Mask.
The weapon deals well if you have 12 in Strength, 18 in Dexterity, and 20 in Arcane. Its unique skill Corpse Plier engulfs the weapon in cursed blood and can inflict successive slash damage, which causes blood loss buildup. The River of Blood Katana cannot be infused with Magic or Ash or War but can be upgraded.
Currently, there is a bug with the River of Blood Katana that makes it unable to increase scaling. While you can use the Sombering Smithing Stones, it will not reflect on the weapon stats. So far there is no update on any hotfix for the bug, and if you still wish to use a weapon that is on par with the River of Blood, you can try using the Nagakiba. It is equally good in terms of scaling and attributes.
