While Pokemon is a video game series that is developed by Game Freak, it is published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company as part of the Pokémon media franchise. The widely popular game was created by Satoshi Tajiri and is known as one of the largest media franchises in the world. Pokemon is also the fourth best selling video game franchise of all time, with over 380 million units sold worldwide as of March 2021.
Nintendo, the company that owns the Pokemon franchise, trademarks their names from time to time in order to protect the copyrights. As the franchise expands every year, it is natural that more and more names will be added to the roster, as well as other related terms. Fans of the Pokemon games will have much to look forward to in the upcoming content that Nintendo releases.
