“With Way of the Hunter, we are going to start a new franchise,” said David Durčák, CEO, of Nine Rocks Games. “The Way of the Hunter franchise finally gives this expansive audience of players a hunting experience as rich in story-telling as it is realistic in ballistic simulation. To create the best game possible, we’ve assembled a seasoned team of skilled professionals, who worked on games like DayZ or the Cabela’s hunting games before.”

If you find yourself looking forward to trying Way of the Hunter when it lands later this year on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, let me share a few thoughts that I’ve been having myself. After going hands-on with the gameplay and what it has to offer, I’m relieved that we’re finally seeing an actual hunting simulator (of sorts) come to life. It’s been long overdue. However, I’m also quite wary about the long-term prospects for the title after playing through what was shown. I’ve got some concerns about whether or not Way of the Hunter is going to be a straight-up hunting simulator or if it will veer towards more of an open-world survival experience which could result in some control issues for players. Based on what little we’ve seen from Way of the Hunter, however, there’s no denying that it’s initially impressive. Sure, it’s fun to try out but let’s hope that its design choices over time actually align better with what players are expecting.
