Elden Ring has a wide variety of spells for players to kill their demons with. As a survival RPG, these spells are scattered across the open-world map as players fight their way around them, exploring as they go. Here’s our top picks for the most powerful magic spells in Elden Ring and where to find them.
What are the Most Powerful Magic Spells in Elden Ring
Ranged combat takes shape in many forms in Elden Ring, and using magic spells is just one way of ensuring that you’re not in direct line of sight of your enemy as you shoot projectiles at them from a distance. Keeping away from your opponent physically will reduce your chance to get beaten into a pulp. With the large variety of lethal spells in the game that can be discovered in the wild or unlocked from merchants, it’s tough to narrow down the ones that will benefit players in general the most, but here’s a list of what the most powerful magic spells in Elden Ring are.

There are two different schools of magic in Elden Ring—namely Sorceries and Incantations—so we’ve listed both types below.
Sorceries
Sorceries are a very effective way to take down powerful enemies, especially once the player has gained skills in advanced magic. You’ll be able to hit your opponents with deadly projectiles and blasts of magical beams to damage their health and take them down.
Comet Azur
The Comet Azur spell is one of the more powerful spells in the game that consume a high amount of FP but deals massive damage to your enemies in the form of magic energy beams. By staggering your enemies with 40 FP, it creates a window for you to rain down more spells and attacks on them to finish them off.
You can find this spell in the wild by heading to the Hermit Village in eastern Mt. Gelmir, and travelling to the Primeval Sorcerer Azur Site of Grace where you will find Azur’s corpse. The Comet Azur spell will be waiting for you next to the body.
Glintstone Pebble
This spell has a low FP cost of 7 and requires 14 Intelligence to use. Compared to the amount of FP it needs, it makes a big difference with its high damage. While it’s easier for opponents to dodge, spamming this attack, especially in lower levels makes this a powerful contender early on in the game.
You can purchase the Glintstone Pebble spell from Sorceress Sellen at the Waypoint Ruins for 1,000 runes. Players who started as Astrologers will already have this sorcery as their starting spell.
Magic Glintblade
This spell creates a sword projectile to launch at your enemies which they might dodge, but the projectile will follow their movement. Thus this guarantees a shot and your opponent will end up taking damage, making it a reliable weapon in the game. With a FP cost of 12 and requiring Intelligence 14, this spell is one that you’ll definitely want to keep.

You can purchase the Magic Glintblade spell from Miriel, Pastor of Vows at the Church of Vows in northeastern Liurnia of the Lakes for 3,000 runes. If you’ve started with a Prisoner class, you should already have this spell.
Incantations
Incantations are usually for different purposes rather than just for offense, which is what Sorceries are for. With this school of magic, you can heal your party and defend them against powerful attacks from your opponents. However, there are quite a few that pack a punch in battle.
Beast Claw
With a Faith Requirement of 8 and an FP cost of 10, the Beast Claw is one of the best offensive incantations in the game, sending out five claws at your enemies when cast. Along with heavy damage, it also staggers your enemy and leaves them open for another shot. This is particularly useful for controlling large groups of foes as it does splash damage along with being effective against bosses.
To get this Incantation, you need to find Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman who resides in the Bestial Sanctum, and give him five Deathroot items. After the fourth one is given to him, you will need to reduce his health by fighting him in order to give him the next one. Once you’ve done so, you will be rewarded with the Beast Claw.
Lightning Spear
This is a classic spell that is more powerful now as it deals a lot of damage with a wide range. The Lightning Spear Incantation costs 14 FP to cast and has a Faith Requirement of 17, making it easy to spam the opponent with it in earlier stages of the game. With more expertise, you can deliver a stronger version of the spell by holding down your casting button.
To find this Incantation, you need to defeat the Leyndell Knight wandering around the Artist’s Shack in eastern Liurnia of the Lakes to obtain the Dragoncult Prayerbook. You will need to take this item to Miriel, Pastor of Vows in the Church of Vows so that you can obtain the Lightning Spear.
Frenzied Burst
The Frenzied Burst is a strong lasered attack that delivers lethal damage on your enemies and raises their Madness level. With an FP cost o 24 and a Faith Requirement of 22, this Incantation is one of the most powerful ones in the game, especially in PvP as it stun locks the opponent and builds up latent damage within them over time. It is difficult to dodge due to its quick casting speed.
