The Warden is a new mob enemy added in the latest Minecraft 1.19 update also called The Wild Update. Since its time of release and even before it, the Warden has been hyped up as one of the if not the most unbeatable mob or mob bosses in the game. The Warden is a late addition to Minecraft because it was supposed to be released in the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update way back in November as part of the Deep Dark Biome.
What makes the Warden so Scary?
The developers in their Minecon sessions have attributed the Warden to be a natural disaster- one to be avoided and not fought with. While other mobs stop pursuing and attacking a player once they go invisible, the Warden does not. The Warden is blind and follows you by the sound of your footsteps and every time you attack it- it speeds up towards you with each hit. Once it catches up to you it usually kills you in one hit unless you have a powerful enchanted Netherite armor on- in which case you last enough for two hits.
The Warden is also the only mob that interacts with the Biome it’s found in– it can dim the lights around it thus making it harder to aim or escape it. While other mobs don’t usually attack each other, the Warden attacks other mobs aimlessly. If you as a player attack it then it latches on to you and follows you instead of getting distracted by other mobs in the vicinity. The Warden also has the highest health in the game- even more than the Ender Dragon.
Some Easy Ways to Kill the Warden
Since the Warden follows you by sound and remembers your smell if you attack it, Wool comes in handy as it silences your footsteps and masks your smell. For an attack to effectively work against the warden your weapons must be of Netherite and enchanted with powerful attack abilities. Finally, since the Warden is 3 blocks tall and at least 1 block wide, it cannot enter narrow spaces. With those in mind here are some easy ways to kill a Warden if you ever have the misfortune of encountering one:
- Dig a tunnel 1×1 tunnel 3-4 blocks into the underground and attack it from below.
- Pillaring straight upwards for 4 or 5 blocks and attacking it from above- preferably with enchanted bows and arrows
- Keeping it at bay using buckets of water and attacking it from a distance
- Using buckets of lava and attacking it from a distance also employs the same strategy as above but it kills the Warden faster due to the fire damage.
- Secure your items and set a respawn point near or at the location of the Warden and kill it over time with one hit per respawn.
It’s still advisable not to engage with the Warden as killing it does not drop any valuable loot and gets you the same XP as killing a chicken in the overworld. The developers designed the Warden as a natural disaster to be escaped from and practice your ninja skills on and not as an enemy to be killed. Staying still or crouching for 60 seconds when you spot a Warden is usually enough for it to go back underground and not attack you.
