What is the Cycle of Strife?
The Cycle of Strife is a Diablo Immortal PvP system that pits the Immortals against the Shadows, owing to Daedessa the Builder, who bestowed the Eternal Crown on her son Kion. This empowered him to assemble the Immortals, a group of the world’s most powerful heroes tasked with protecting Sanctuary from the Burning Hells.
Knowing that immense authority carries the possibility of corruption, Daedessa charged her daughter Akeba with forming the Shadows, a second organisation tasked with verifying the Immortals’ aptitude for this job.
If the Immortals are defeated by the Shadows, the Shadows take their place as the new Immortals, suggesting that they no longer deserve the power they have. The Cycle of Strife lasts 1-3 months and ends with either the current Immortals continuing in power or the top Shadows toppling them and becoming Immortals.
The Rite of Exile and the Challenge of the Immortal are the final events of the Cycle of Strife, and everything that happens throughout it is geared at preparing the two factions, the Immortals and the Shadows, for their final confrontation.
Joining the Cycle of Strife
Players can join Cycle of Strife in the following ways:
- Players must become members of a Dark Clan.
- A lottery is used to choose who may join Speak with the mysterious Patron in the Westmarch pub at 12.00 PM, 6.00 PM, and 9.00 PM to register for the lottery.
- Winners are sent to a black chamber to compete against three Champions.
- Those who defeat the Champions are transformed into Shadows.
- The lottery can then be utilised to populate the clan.
- Playing the lottery again and winning grants Akeba’s Signet, which may be used to welcome people to the Dark Clan without requiring them to play the lottery.
Because no one has been tried, no one will be worthy of taking the Eternal Crown of The Immortal during the first Cycle of Strife. As a result, the first Cycle of Strife after Launch will be predominantly a PvE experience, with NPCs portraying The Immortal, Lieutenants, Elites, and all Members.
