Saints Row 2022 Reboot or the Saints Row 5 is developed by Volition and is the 5th installment. Like the previous games in the series, you operate a gang in the fictional Saints Row district. The new Saints Row looks better than anything we experienced in the past, mostly due to the advancement in video game technology. The character customization feels more real, and the world is beautiful. However, during our first hour in the game, we noticed a bit of stuttering during certain action/crowded scenes. If you have run into the Saints Row 2022 stuttering, low FPS, and performance issues, our guide can help. So, keep reading to fix your performance problems in Saints Row.
Saints Row 2022 Stuttering and FPS Drop Fix
We played the game on systems with 3070ti and 3080, both GPUs perfectly capable of handling any modern-day titles, yet felt stutter and lag while playing the game. Here are some solutions that worked for us and others that may be able to help you fix the Saints Row stuttering and fps drop.
Tune the Resolution Scale and Set Windows Borderless
The fix that we suggest for the Saints Row stuttering and low FPS is to tune the Resolution Scale and set the Display Mode to Windows Borderless. It’s the setting that resolved our problem with the game. If you are playing the game with maxed-out settings and would like to keep that but would also want the stuttering to dissipate, I suggest you bring the resolution scale down to the lower 80s. There is no fixed value here; just try to reduce the resolution scale and check the difference in-game. Don’t go too low or below 80, you will sacrifice the experience of your native resolution.
Clean Install the GPU Driver
Nvidia has not launched any new drivers since Spider-Man PC came out. It’s a no-brainer, but if your game is not performing ideally, you should ensure that you have the latest GPU driver installed. Sometimes, rolling back the driver can also fix some problems in games. If that’s the case with this game, we will update this fix in a few days when we have more evidence.
When installing the latest driver, choose custom install and then a clean install. This will remove the old driver before installing the new, which is how the driver should be updated.
Raytraced Ambient Occlusion Low – Medium – High – Ultra?
Like most settings, it can vary from one PC to the other, but here are some things to keep in mind. If you are rocking a high-end GPU, you can try the Ultra settings for Raytraced Ambient Occlusion, and the game is truly brought to life with the settings. However, if the game is suffering from an FPS drop problem, we suggest that you set the setting to low. You can see a clear visual difference with the Raytraced Ambient Occlusion set to ultra, but no noticeable difference when it’s set to Low, Medium, or High. So, you may as well put this setting to low to boost Saints Row performance.
Tune Shadow Quality to Fix Saints Row Stuttering and Low FPS Problems
Another important setting in Stains Row’s graphics menu is the Shadow Quality. Ideally, you would want this setting as high as possible as it has a direct impact on the game’s visuals and experience, but with the game suffering from performance issues, it’s not a luxury you can afford; tune the shadow quality and find the perfect balance.
Reduce the Overall Graphics Quality
Reduce the overall graphics settings of Saint’s Row to fix the stuttering in-game. To fix these issues, the main settings options you should set are: disable V-Sync, tune down Shadow effects and Anti-Aliasing, and try running the game at a lower display resolution.
There are numerous options for reducing or eliminating stuttering in games. However, resolving this problem is a multifaceted process that frequently necessitates several solutions and some detective work. While you should always start with the hardware and recommended game settings, you should also manually adjust your game settings to ensure that the game runs as smoothly as possible with your current specs.
Turn On Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling
Only NVidia GPUs support hardware scheduling at the time of writing. Keep an eye out for future updates from AMD and Intel that will include support for this feature.
Once you’ve determined that you have a compatible GPU, double-check that it is using the most recent drivers. If your computer meets all of the requirements, it’s time to enable the Windows GPU hardware scheduling feature.
To enable GPU hardware scheduling, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > System after clicking Start.
- Select Display from the left-hand menu.
- Click Graphics settings just below Multiple Displays.
- Turn on the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling toggle.
- Start your computer again.
Terminate All Third-Party Applications
Open the Task Manager and terminate all applications you do not need especially RGB and Overclocking software. Some of the software that is known to cause issues in games are Razer Synapse, MSI Dragon Center, MSI Afterburner, Vjoy, etc. Ensure that nothing else is running in the background besides the game and the Epic Games Store.
A better option is to start the game in a clean boot environment. You can refer to the linked guide for steps, but ensure that you check the box not to disable Microsoft services, or things can go wrong.
Disable Steam and Other Overlays
Steam Overlay and other overlays such as the GeForce Experience, the Xbox Game Bar, etc. used to cause many issues in games a few years back. But, over the past year or so, we have not seen a title that faced any major issue due to these settings. However, just as a troubleshooting step, disable the Steam Overlays.
Install the Game on SSD
In 2022, SSD is the norm for gaming, but if you have by mistake or otherwise installed the game on a drive that is not SSD, now may be time to move the game to SSD.
This guide is a WIP, so it will be updated in a day or two. If the Saints Row 2022 reboot is still stuttering, has low FPS, and performance issues, return to the post for help.
