Fix Genshin Impact Won’t Launch, Crash at Startup, Unable to  Launch, Not Installing, and Black Screen

If you meet the minimum requirements and you are still experiencing the Genshin Impact crash at startup, unable to launch, not installing, or black screen, you probably didn’t approve the game in the Windows Defender or antivirus popup. Ensure that the game is whitelisted on your antivirus software or the Windows Firewall and Defender.

Some other areas of concern are listed below.

Uninstall FACEIT Anti-Cheat

For players who are using the FACEIT Anti-Cheat program, especially for CS: GO players, they will face the issue of Genshin Impact not starting up. FACEIT seems to block the files from Genshin Impact loading properly, hence why the game can crash. Your first solution to this problem is to uninstall FACEIT Anti Cheat, otherwise, find the program where the file is stored that is making FACEIT block it.  If you do not wish to uninstall FACEIT Anti Cheat, then you can find the program that triggers the crash by:

Go to File Explorer > Program Files/FACEIT AC > Open the program and check under Service.log for any files that are getting blocked.

Once you have your hands on the file name, make a quick Google search of the name, it will show you which program it is coming from. You can then decide whether you need to uninstall the program or not.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus

If you find your game still having problems with launching, then you will need to change settings or disable your Firewall/Antivirus software entirely, as these can block Genshin Impact.

To let Genshin Impact get through Firewall:

Go to Windows Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > click Allow App or Feature on the left panel > Change Settings > Find and select Launcher.exe > Allow Public and Private Networks

Click Apply and restart your PC for the settings to change, then launch the game to check.

Reinstall vcredist2013

If you are seeing the “The application cannot start correctly (0xc000007b)” error, it’s because there are corrupt or missing DLL files. Repairing or replacing the DLL file can fix the issue. Although, there are a number of ways to fix the error, here is what you must try first.

Go to the game’s launcher install directory and locate the file vcredist2013_x64.exe, double-click on it to begin the installation. Next, go to the Microsoft website, download and install VC_redist.x64.exe. Once the installations are complete, restart the system and launch the game. The error should be resolved. If it persists, here are some alternative solutions.

Terminate Unnecessary Applications

With so many games, third-party software that forcefully injects themselves between operations cause crash in the game. Hence, the first thing we must do to resolve the Genshin Impact crashing on PC or failed to launch error is suspend all unnecessary programs and then launch the game. Here are the steps you can follow.

  1. Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
  2. In General tab, uncheck Load startup items
  3. Go to the Services tab
  4. Check Hide all Microsoft services
  5. Now, click Disable all
  6. Click on Apply and OK.

Try launching the game and check if the crash at startup, unable to launch, or the black screen still appears.

Open another Game

Some players have reported a quirky fix to Genshin Impact not loading or Launching. They have said to open the game Valorant and stay on the menu screen for some time, then you can either close the game or let it run in the background. After that, launch Genshin Impact, and the issue seems to go away. It is not certain if only launching Valorant will help or if it can work with other games as well, but this fix seemed to work for a lot of players.

Alter config settings

Changing the configuration settings for Genshin Impact seemed to help with launching issues. Go to Run > type regedit > press enter > type in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\miHoYo\Genshin Impact in the search bar. Double click on UnityGraphicsQuality_h1669003810 – change decimal value data to 0. You can also do this another way by launching Genshin Impact > Hold down Shift key > change value in the configuration window.

Updating the Graphics Card Drivers

The cause of Genshin Impact’s black screen could be an outdated graphics card driver or fullscreen optimization. Nvidia recently released the latest Game Ready Drivers, ensure you have updated the driver software to that. If the error still persists, locate the game executable at C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact\GenshinImpact.exe > right-click > Properties > Compatibility > check Disable fullscreen optimization and Run this program as an administrator.

Check if the black screen in the game is fixed.

Run the Game as Admin

If the Genshin Impact won’t launch the possible cause could be you have not provided admin privilege to the game and that’s preventing it from writing or performing certain functions on your PC. Therefore, you must provide admin permission to the game. To do that, go to the desktop shortcut of Genshin Impact, right-click, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and check run this program as an administrator. That’s it, now attempt to launch the game.

Disable VPN Software

Gamers rely on VPN software to play games for a range of reasons; however, not all games like VPN software, and when such a connection is detected you may face problems launching the game. Therefore, if you are using a VPN, disable it and check if the game works.

Clear Windows Temporary Files

Sometimes temporary files can become corrupted. These files are used by the game for better performance, but corruption can cause the game to crash. Delete these files and allow the game to download new files. This can potentially resolve the error. Here are the steps to delete temp files from your OS.

  1. Open the Run dialogue box by pressing on Windows Key + R
  2. Type %temp% in the field and hit Enter
  3. Press Ctrl + A and hit Delete (if you cannot delete some files, let them be and close the Window)

Modify Discord Settings

If you are using Discord, here is what you need to do. The in-game overlay and the hardware acceleration of Discord are also known to cause a crash in games. So, if you have the software installed and running disable the overlay and hardware acceleration. Here are the steps you can follow.

  1. Launch the Discord app and click on User Settings
  2. Click on Voice & Video in the left menu
  3. Locate Advanced by scrolling down and click
  4. Next, disable OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco System, Inc. and Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority
  5. Go to Overlay and disable it
  6. Go to Advanced anddisable Hardware Acceleration.

Hopefully, the above solutions have resolved the Genshin Impact won’t launch, crash at startup, unable to launch, not installing, and black screen. If the problem persists, raise a ticket with the developers or put the problem in a relevant forum.
