Check System Requirements
Before starting up any game you will need to ensure that the game will run on your system. There is a list of hardware requirements you can find on Steam or the Epic Game Store, and it details what are the requirements needed to play FFVII.
Change In-Game Settings
Your first step to fix lag and FPS drops is to change the in-game settings. If you are not able to play the game smoothly, change all the display and graphics settings to low or medium, and reduce the display, resolution, shadows, MSAA, and rendering quality. Also, toggling VSync to see which setting works can also help with stuttering and lag.
Change from DX12 to DX11
Sometimes, the Direct X driver will be assigned incorrectly. You can manually change it under the Epic Games Store by going to Settings > Manage Games > FFVII > Additional Command Line Arguments > -dx11. For Steam, go to the game library > properties > launch options > type in -d3d11 or -dx11 > click OK.
Update Windows and Graphics Driver
If you notice that your Windows updates and Graphics Driver updates are lagging behind, you will have to update them before you can play the game smoothly.

Verify Game Files

Change Windows Power Setting
Go to Windows Settings > System > Power and Battery > Power Mode > change to Best/ Ultimate performance.
Enable/Disable Game Mode
You can try to toggle game mode on or off to see if it helps with frame rate issues. You can find Game Mode under Windows Settings.
