A Justice League Console Game Got Announced, Coming in 2023

Marvel and DC superheroes are the leading and easiest sources of multimedia revenue. Video games have thus been tapping the potential of this sub-genre of pop culture for a while now. With several Marvel-based games out in the market, DC is taking its turns too. Most of the high-quality games based in the DC universe are based on Batman and Gotham. Thus, this time a game based on just the Justice League is in the works.

Reports suggest that DC is planning to significantly increase the number of games based on its movies. Several DC superhero-related games are currently in development. The list is long and includes titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios. Some other games currently in development include a solo game on Wonder Woman from Monolith Productions. Also, another Gotham Knights game is scheduled for a 2022 release window. This game will be focused on the Batman lore.

These aforementioned games have their sets of target audiences. But, the upcoming DC Justice League is not going to be anything like them.

DC is known for its dark stories and gritty experiences. However, the upcoming game will be much more family-friendly and suitable for a larger age group. This game is being developed by Outright Games. Outright has developed several family-friendly titles in the past. These include Hotel Transylvania Scary-Tale Adventures, the upcoming DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace.

The developers recently launched a teaser trailer for the upcoming DC Justice League. This showcases the game’s art style, which has been significantly cartoonized and does not follow the focus on cinematic experiences, unlike the previous DC-based video games. The DC characters shown in this reveal include Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Green Lantern.

However, the reception of the art style is mixed. Some fans seem okay with it, while others are questioning the overall theme and vibe of DC.

Outright Games’ DC Justice League is currently in development. It will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
