In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’ll encounter a variety of peculiar characters—none more so than Malachy, a mysterious merchant who peddles odd trinkets and supposed artifacts. While most of his inventory is questionable at best, Malachy does offer one meaningful opportunity: a side quest called Drowner Tongues for Malachy. Here’s how to start and complete it.
How to Start the Quest

You can begin this quest by locating a Letter from a Shady Merchant at The Gallows. After finding the letter, track down Malachy and confront him about it. When given the option, agree to assist him in his venture. This will officially start the Drowner Tongues for Malachy quest.
If you’ve already plundered the two Drowner Tongues from the same crate where you encountered the letter, you’ll only need four more to complete the task.
Where to Find Drowner Tongues

Drowner Tongues are something that drops from time to time from Drowners, aquatic foes that you typically encounter close to water. If you weren’t able to gather enough as you moved through the Horns of the South, you can’t simply stumble into them; you’ll have to go looking for them.
The safest location is the Sunken Village on the west coast. You can fast travel there immediately or head south from the Deserted Settlement along the coastline. At the village, check the beach near the fast travel point—Drowners constantly spawn there.
Warning: not every Drowner drops a tongue. It might take five to ten kills to accumulate the required six, depending on your luck.
Completing the Quest

Once you have acquired six Drowner Tongues, return to Malachy in the Deserted Settlement in the northwest region of the map. Hand them over to complete the quest.
Quest Reward
As reward for your efforts, Malachy will reward you with:
- 1,000 XP
- 148 coins
- Drowner’s Sword
The Drowner’s Sword is a decent early-game melee sword. To wear it, you will need 6 Strength, 4 Dexterity, and 3 Practicality. This sword is especially good to use on Chill-weak monsters, a status condition it can inflict on them with every swing.
If you are building a warrior character, it’s a decent weapon to spend money on—especially during the early part of your adventure.
While Malachy is not the best sort of partner, his side quest is definitely worth the trouble. The experience, coin, and special weapon make Drowner Tongues for Malachy a quest you’ll be happy to have done, particularly if you explore the Horns of the South during your first playthrough.
