During this part of The Blood of Dawnwalker, you’ll have to decide whether to help Pieter force-feed your mother, Esme, or refuse to do it. The game gives you a few dialogue options, but you may be wondering if your choice actually changes what happens next. In this guide, we’ll go over each option and explain the outcome so you know what to expect.
Feed your mother or refuse

When Pieter decides to force-feed Esme in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you’ll get three dialogue options:
- Alright. Let’s try.
- I won’t feed her against her will.
- She’s gone to mass before. (Optional)
The third choice is just a return to the initial two options. The result is not different from the previous one. Whether the player opts for the third or the first option, Esme will still have difficulties that will cause her to push the food away. This is followed by Coen leaving to look for medicine for Esme.
Feed your Mother

If you select the “Alright, let’s try” path, Coen will take the spoon and attempt to feed Esme. But Esme immediately pushes away the spoon and begins to cry. This makes your father, Pieter, feel guilty for attempting to force her into eating.
Refuse to Feed Your Mother

If you select the “I won’t feed her against her will,” your father will go ahead and force-feed Esme; however, she refuses, and she manages to knock the spoon from his hand. After the cutscene ends, your father will ask you to get the medicinal herbs from Anca, which kickstarts the rest of the Withering Away questline. There are no consequences to what you choose here, so you can safely go ahead and pick any option to watch what happens to Esme.
