There is a rumor in the video game community that Ubisoft will release a new Assassin’s Creed game similar to the first three games in the series. Fans of the franchise are excited about this rumor and some feel like this move would be a good way of reversing the downward spiral of the building franchise.
While the series has always been about assassins, the game has evolved from its origins as a stealth assassination simulator into a more action-oriented experience. The latest Assassin’s Creed Valhalla leans even further into action role-playing with heavy influence from the Viking aesthetic and culture leaving most of the original Assasins Creed background into a totally different game plot with little to no emphasis on the Assasins creed original story. This has obviously not gone well with the lovers of classic Assasins creed Titles. Although it has not impacted Ubisoft in terms of sales as all of their titles from the last couple of years have been very successful and despite getting lots of criticism from the Original Assasins creed community, they have continued the trend of leaving the origin story behind in most of their games.
The New Assassins game will take place in ancient Baghdad, which is where Basim hails from. Basim was a popular character in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and his return comes as no surprise since his story was left unfinished by the end of Valhalla’s main campaign. Basim was introduced as a member of the Order of Ancients who had gone rogue and started killing off members of his own group. He also happened to be Eivor’s brother, and Eivor spent much of their time in Valhalla searching for him. Its story is expected to flesh out the character of Basim before the events of Valhalla and likely also add to that game’s wider story concerning that particular character. The project was originally an expansion for Valhalla, but later the Ubisoft officials decided to make it more of an individual smaller standalone title. It will not have a massive open word like Valhalla or Odyssey, instead, it will feature smaller individual map regions.
Not too much to take away from this, other than Ubisoft is planning big things and they have a lot of help. Overall, it’s clear that Ubisoft has a host of exciting titles in the pipeline. What’s more, the company seems to be expanding its potential market for future games. If Ubisoft can deliver on as many of these titles as possible—and Ubisoft has a long history of doing so—the video game giant could very well break a new streak of success in 2022 and beyond.
