FromSoftware’s upcoming RPG Elden Ring will be released on 25th February. Elden Ring is a survival game where players need to become the Elden Lord by restoring the broken shards of Elden Ring which are scattered across the game map. The game has plenty of character builds and storylines, and the player will need to learn combat and magic abilities to defeat the game bosses. This guide will walk you through the process of how to pause your game in Elden Ring. But first, we have to find out if we can pause at all?
Can you Pause your Game in Elden Ring
As you might have noticed while playing, you can use your controls to navigate the in-game menus, but at the same time, your character will continue to move. It seems like the game still runs when you think you’ve paused because you’ve exited the game screen to switch to the menus—but it isn’t really paused. This might be disconcerting at first, but actually, it’s pretty normal for online multiplayer games.

The most you can do is to make sure that your character is in a safe zone before attempting to pause the game. While your character won’t do anything on their own, it’s a good idea to go somewhere that’s not populated by NPCs who might try to interact with you, or worse, enemies who are out for your blood. You might be gone for a cup of coffee and come back to find your character knocked out on the floor.
Good safe zone include spots close to a merchant or a Site of Grace. However, safety is never guaranteed so you might need to take more precautions.
It’s ideal to save the game just before you take a break so you don’t lose out on anything fun. Check out our guide on How to Save Game in Elden Ring.
