FromSoftware’s Elden Ring lets players defend the titular Elden Ring, and is a collaboration with George R. R. Martin the fantasy writer. Elden Ring is a survival RPG where players need to repair the Ring to ultimately become the Elden Lord by defeating monsters. This guide will take you through the process of how to defeat the Cemetery Shade in Elden Ring.
How to Beat the Cemetery Shade in Elden Ring
The Cemetery Shade can be an intimidating creature, as it moves quickly and packs a strong punch. You’ll find this boss outside Limgrave near the Weeping Penninsula, which you can access by moving southeast to the center of the peninsula. There is a dungeon on your map here called the Tombsward Catacombs.

Be prepared for the fight by getting some bleed resistant armour since the Cemetery Shade deals bleed damage. You can also use some Stanching Boluses.
How to Attack
For sorcerors, this might be an easy fight as the Cemetery Shade lacks range in its attacks—so you can avoid their melee barrage and hit back from a distance. Magic and ranged attacks such as bows are good options.
Melee fighters need to have the right equipment such as a strong shield to block the incoming melee attacks such as the flail and the slam. Parrying is an option, as the guard counter will ensure that you hit the enemy after blocking their attempts to do so.
How to Defend
The Cemetery Shade will try to attack you twice and move his arms for five seconds which you need to watch out for. He can follow this up with a flail and a standard slam attack. When you see him doing these melee attacks, make sure to step out of their way.
As for ranged attacks, the Cemetery Shade uses a green orb that can attack you, and this will stun you for a while. This is very dangerous as the Cemetery Shade can grab you for a quick stab attack. Avoid the green orb when it comes your way and you should be fine.
