Let’s start with what exactly are Merlin Trials. There are almost 50 Merlin Trials in total, minor riddles created by the renowned wizard, scattered throughout Hogwarts Legacy.
They provide gear slots via the Challenges menu, which are helpful given how many robes, caps, and gloves you’ll accumulate over your quest in addition to the simple enjoyment of solving them.
The symbols may be found on the ground outside of Hogwarts, but you cannot access them until you finish the Trials of Merlin quest, which introduces you to Nora Treadwell, a scholar who has long been interested in these symbols.
How to find the Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy
To find the Merlin Trials on the map, you will need to find the location marked by the Mallowsheet icon. Whenever you pass by one such location, it will show up as a point of interest. However, it is absolutely essential to possess the Mallowsheet Leaves because progressing without these in the Merlin Trials is nearly impossible.
There are a few locations in which you can find them such as the Herbology Classroom or by buying seeds in Hogsmeade and growing them in the Room of Requirement.
How to solve Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy
Merlin Trials exist in numerous forms. They may seem complex at first, but once you start solving them, they will seem way simpler. The basic algorithm is always the same. Cast a specific spell on parts of the environment near the Merlin Trial platform. Of course, you can always cast Revelo and the puzzle parts will glow blue.
Here are the known trials and the spells to solve them:
Large Stone Ball
Spell: Depulso
For this one, all that has to be done is to roll a massive stone ball into a ground bowl using the push spell Depulso. The bowl goal is clearly visible, and the balls are typically pretty high up. You might think of using spells like Levioso or Accio, but the stone ball is too heavy for those.
Small Stone Balls
Spell: Accio
You must use Accio to retrieve five balls and stack them into a row of platforms close to the trial platform in order to complete this Merlin Trial puzzle.
The three platforms are arranged in a triangle around the Merlin Trial platform, each with four slots (the final ball rests on top).
Lighting Three Braziers
Spell: Confringo
You must use a spell like Confringo to quickly light three braziers that are placed on stone plinths in order to complete this version of the Merlin Trials. Once lit, the plinths begin to sink into the earth, and the flame will eventually die when it touches the surface.
You’ll need to be strategic about the order you ignite them because they are usually dispersed over a big area. Because the columns’ sizes vary, a piece of advice is to move from the largest to the smallest as this would save some time and make the process efficient and faster.
Guiding Moths to the Stones
Spell: Lumio
You must use Lumio to direct three groups of luminous moths to each of three crystal-encased stones positioned around the trial marker in order to complete this trial. Usually, the statues are located not far from the marker. A little farther away, the moths appear as flickering bunches.
Break the Stone Slabs
Spell: Confringo
You must utilise Confringo to eliminate all the nearby blocks that resemble the ones above to complete this trial. Use Revelio to make them glow in blue so you can crush them all because there is always at least one concealed one.
Shooting Globes on Plinths
Spell: Confringo or Basic Cast
A set of nine stone balls perched on stone columns makes up this trial. The hardest part is usually just spotting them because they are typically found in groups of three close to the Merlin Trial marker.
Fortunately, they shine with Revelio, but they can be hidden behind walls and further up than you might think. Then all you have to do is use your basic spell or Confringo to hit them all.
Obstacle Course
Spell: None
This is a basic parkour challenge where you need to hop from one block to another, without touching the floor.
Matching Puzzle Blocks
The three stone columns constructed of two stone blocks with markings on are one of the trickier Merlin Trials. You must have Flipendo in order to finish it (which comes quite a way into the game).
Rotate the top stone block of each column with Flipendo until the symbols that resemble these with the arrow pointing down are matched.
Broken Statues
When you begin the Merlin Trial, you could see three statues scattered over the area that instantly crumble into pieces.
Casting Reparo on all three will help you finish this one very rapidly.
That is all about the nine Merlin Trials and how to solve them.
