There are a few things you can try to bypass the cutscene and enter the actual gameplay. Below are some tips and tricks to try out to get the game playing again.
- The issue seems to be with the Codec files in the game folder. Files like K-Lite, CCCP, VLC, and LAV Filters seem to mess up the video and cause the screen to freeze. You can find these files under Program Files (x86), and you can uninstall the ones that you have.
- Some players who don’t have K-Lite or CCCP seem to find a workaround by uninstalling VLC and reinstalling the latest version of VLC. Select the Full option while downloading VLC again.
- One user reported that instead of uninstalling K-Lite, tweaking the Codec would help instead. To do this, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\Tools\CodecTweakTool.exe. Head to the Codec and Filter tab and go to the Preferred Splitters option. Under the 64-bit MP4 option, select the option to Use Merit. Apply the new settings and close the window. You can now restart your PC and play the game.
- Changing to Borderless windowed or fullscreen, and then changing the resolution seems to help sort the freezing issue.
- Use the save file here to overwrite your current save file. After downloading the save file, open the AppData folder by using the Run command and typing in %appdata%. Once you are here, go to LocalLow\©BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc_\DIGIMON SURVIVE\Savedata\[your SteamID], then save or overwrite the downloaded file here.
- To save the above downloaded file on Steam Deck, you can go to the following folder /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/871980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/©BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc_/DIGIMON SURVIVE/Savedata/. Once you get the prompt to overwrite, select the file and use it here.
- Proton Experimental in Steam Deck seems to cause the issue with the cutscene. To bypass it, you can also run the game by using Parallels with the Steam Deck through your PC and getting past the cutscene, then making a manual save after that and loading it to Steam Cloud.
- Deleting the AVPRO Video file from the game folder seems to help some players. You can locate this under C:\Digimon Survive\DigimonSurvive_Data\Plugins\x86_64. Find the AVPROVideo file and delete it. You can do the same on Steam Deck by switching to Desktop mode > Steam > Digimon Survive > Right-click and select Manage > Browse Local Files > DigimonSurvive_Data > Plugins\x86_64 > AVPROVideo
- If you wish to keep the CCCP codec, you can try to disable the MP4/MOV options in the system settings for CCCP, then restart your system and try again.
- For some players, first installing the K-Lite Mega Pack, and later uninstalling the K-Lite file in Program Files (x86) seems to fix the issue.
- You can also try to uninstall all the codecs and play the game just right after the cutscene, then save the game and reinstall the codecs. Copy and paste the installation file into your Steam Deck to verify the files and play the game.
