Biomutant is one of the most hyped games this month and we have already had some great games in May. Will the game fair against the expectation is yet to be seen. However, when you boot up the game, the last thing you expect is the black screen. Unfortunately, a lot of users have been complaining of the issue with the game. Fortunately, the Biomutant black screen problem has some effective solutions. You should note that the solution discussed addresses the black screen problem due to client’s system does not account for specific problems with the game settings and coding bugs.
However, in a few days from the launch of the game, we will update the post if a black screen bug with the game emerges. So, do revisit the post for updated solutions if the current fixes fail to resolve your issue.
How to Fix Biomutant Black Screen Problem
Crash at startup and black screen can sometimes have the same underlying issue, but in most cases, the Biomutant black screen could be due to a fault with the graphics card driver. As such, there are a range of solutions you can try. Here are all the solutions you can try.
Switch to Windowed Mode and Back Again to Fullscreen
When you encounter the black screen while playing a game, hitting the keys Alt + Enter, switches the display to Windowed mode. Hit the Alt + Enter twice to switch to Windowed Mode and back to Fullscreen. This is a trick that fixes the black screen more often than not. But, this fix is more effective for in-game black screen than black screen at startup. If there is a glitch with the graphics card or the game, this simple switch should fix it.
Play the Game on Low Settings
If your system is failing to meet the resources required to run the game, one of the results would be the black screen. As such, try to play the game on lower or lowest settings. This way you would be able to play the game even when the system requirements are not met.
Update the OS and Graphics Card Driver
A pending OS update could be the cause of the black screen in Biomutant. It could either be the update or a third-party software that’s not updated could be causing the issue. Hence, the first thing you should do is update the OS.
Another cause of the black screen could be an outdated or corrupted graphics card driver. Hence, you must fix that by update the driver. If you have recently updated the driver, the issue could be the driver update that’s bugged. So, if you have not updated the driver in a while, do that or revert to the last driver if the issue starts after installing the latest driver.
Disable Link State Power Management
If the GPU is not provided sufficient power, it can function undesirable and fail to render the full power leading to graphical problems in games including the Biomutant black screen. Set the power options correctly to fix the issue. Here are the steps you can follow.
- Right-click on Battery icon in the tray or the taskbar and select Power Options
- Click on the Change plan settings link
- Next, click the Change advanced power settings link
- Expand PCI Express
- Disable both State Power Management options
- Save the changes.
Clean Boot the System
In a clean boot environment, only the most essential Windows application run while everything else is suspended. The Biomutant black screen can be caused by other applications consuming too many resources such as bloatware. While you should uninstall any bloatware, a clean boot is a great temporary fix so you can analyze the results. If the black screen does not occur after the clean boot, it’s a third-party software that’s causing the issue. Here are the steps you can follow.
- Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
- Go to the Services tab
- Check Hide all Microsoft services
- Now, click Disable all
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager
- Disable one task at a time and restart the system
- Try launching the game, check if the error still occurs.
Finally, if nothing has worked to fix the Biomutant black screen problem, ensure that the problem is not with your hardware. Some tell-tell signs are overheating. Monitor the CPU heat, it should not be more than 60-70 degrees Celsius.
