The Darkmoon Ring is required to bring Ranni the Witch back to life. You will meet her very early in the game, as she is the one who will give you the Spirit Calling Bell. But to receive the quest from her, you will have to venture a bit further into the game. You can find her again in her tower called Ranni’s Rise in the West Lirunia region. Talking to her will start her questline. Along the way, she will ask you to find the Darkmoon Ring and place it on her finger. You can find the ring in Raya Lucaria Grand Library’s Site of Grace. There is a locked chest in the area that will require the Discarded Palace Key that you will find while doing the quest. After obtaining the ring, go back to Ranni’s body in the Cathedral of Manus Celes in Liurnia, which you can reach after defeating Astel and taking the elevator.
After slipping the Darkmoon Ring on her finger, she will reward you with the Moonlight Greatsword, previously known as the Darkmoon Greatsword until you activate its skill. This Greatsword manages to mix magic and melee damage and has 98 Magic and 82 Physical in stats. You will need 11 Dexterity and 16 Strength to wield it.
