This is a beginners guide for players who are new to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and its smoke spots. We aim to teach you the basic smoke spots and you need to cover as you push into the site, and as a CT you must watch out for some of these entrances and smoke them normally by aiming at them. These entrances where the T side attackers emerge from are also very close to where they can smoke you off, so as a CT it’s essential to smoke before they do, in the start of the round at least.
CS:GO Best Dust 2 Smoke Spots Beginners Guide
As this is a beginner’s guide, we will not be showing any smoke lineups, as this guide aims to get you familiar with the smoke spots first, after which you can read the upcoming advanced guide to CS:GO smokes that will help you achieve even higher skills with your smokes, including tricks to smoke off far away spots to ‘fake’ your push and flank the enemy.
Pushing & defending bombsite A
Starting with the A Bombsite, as an attacker you push into Long A by doing the following smokes –
After peeking this long corner, or flashing it immediately beforehand, you can smoke this common spot where CTs will definitely peek you while you are entering, and it also prevents AWPers sniping you from the bombsite itself. Look at the wall and do a running smoke, by pressing W for moving forward and LMB (left mouse button), then letting go of LMB before you exit the door. Do aim below the wall at the spot so that it should cover the exposed road loading to the A site.
The team should be able to push A like the above image and clear the pit and side pit areas effectively. Your entire team can push during this smoke and take control of the area, and get ready to finally push into main A site and plant the bomb. This area known as long corridors should be smoked off if you are on the CT side, and just like the gameplay screenshot above the T attackers will enter exactly from this area. You can aim at long A corridors and smoke it off while covering the area from the pit, if needed.
After pushing this area, you need to push off the CT Base area and you can do this by going next to the smoke we recently did and while emerging out of it, doing a smoke by aiming at the walls of the area just below the bombsite leading to the CT Base. It should look like this –
The smoke covers 80% of the area effectively, with some parts being exposed. Your team must quickly move to the other side with flashes or effective jumping around the exposed smoke. Another option is to get your teammate to smoke one part of the CT Base next to the wall, and another smoke right next to the opposite corner, covering 100% of the area.
After planting the bomb at the site A, you can smoke off short A as well as CT Base. To do this, go to the area known as Goose (there is a goose drawn on the wall), and aim for a long or medium throw (LMB+RMB, or holding both mouse buttons and then letting go) towards short A, but not throwing it too deep to make sure the area gets smoked off. This area known as goose can be smoked off as CT to push into the bombsite as well, just aim the smoke where Goose is and do a long throw (LMB).
You can smoke off CT Base by doing a loose throw (simply hold on the right mouse button and let go) while aiming at it. They both look like this below. You can efficiently hold both CT base and Short A areas with the help of these smokes.
Mid to B smoke
Moving on to the middle section, you can push the B bombsite by smoking off mid and entering the site while having CT base and A site covered. This is a dangerous strat but pulled off safely and swiftly with the help of a simple CT base smoke. Here’s how to pull it off – while aiming at the second box from the top, aim the smoke and release it while running with LMB. It should bounce off the boxes and land in the middle of CT base.
The next step is to push the middle area and keep watching CT base which should look covered like this making it easy to do a swift push to B with flashes.
Pushing A from short catwalk at middle
Now let’s say you are in the middle and looking to smoke off the XBOX area where CT tends to watch from middle to cover short A catwalk. The advanced guide will cover a way to smoke this area from T spawn, but for the basics beginner’s guide we will show you an easy way to do this by entering lower tunnels first, and smoking XBOX with a simple loose throw (hold RMB or right mouse button for this) while being four tiles away from leaving the lower tunnel area. It should look like this.
You can combine this with flashes and sounds at B by even one teammate to fake a B push and then have your entire team push short A while the CT might have tried to rotate.
Smokes to push site B
Going back to the T Spawn, if you need to rush bombsite B directly, you can do this slightly advanced smoke where you have to look at the pillar that is on the left when you enter the upper tunnels. It looks like the gameplay screenshot below and you need to align your crosshair as well to the middle of the pillar.
Once done, turn 180 degrees and look towards bombsite B. There are textures on the hallway leading to bombsite B and the one marked at the crosshair in the picture below is exactly where you need to aim to effectively smoke part of the B site to make a push possible.
As a CT, the below hallway must be smoked off and you can do this smoke a bit deep into the tunnel. Just throw a normal smoke at the hallway and keep watching it, the T attackers are bound to push as soon as the smoke dissipates.
After doing this, the smoke should be able to get you inside bombsite B as you only need to watch the top of ‘car’ while entering the bombsite as well as the sniper’s nest. You can also throw flashes on the smoke. After entering bombsite B, you must smoke off doors and the window by doing medium throws (LMB+RMB) aiming right at the spots where they should land. Do this while or before the bomb is being planted and you will have effectively smoked the entire bombsite B preventing CT from pushing.
This guide has now covered all the basic smoke spots you need to know for the map de_dust 2 or Dust 2 of CS:GO. We hope this helps you in becoming an intermediate player from beginners level, and stay tuned for the upcoming advanced CS:GO smokes guide where you will learn effective lineups for all smoke spots, for both CT and T sides.
